boulders beach

Situated just outside Simons Town on the False Bay coast is Boulders Beach. You can walk to the beach from the centre of Simons Town or you can make the short drive towards Cape Point and then follow the penquin signs. Admission is R15 for adults and R5 for kids.

Boulders Beach is home to a colony of African Penquins, formely known as Jackass Penquins. They got the name Jackass from the sound they make which is similar to that of donkeys. But I guess if you were called a Jackass all your life, a switch to African Penquin would be most welcome.

We last visited the beach in August 2005 and there were lots a new born penquins with their parents. They were easy to spot with their thick fluffy coats, which are grey and will be shed to reveal the traditional black and white coat.
